is a Data Scientist at NIWA. His research focuses on using techniques in artificial intelligence to increase the accuracy of weather forecasts and provide reliable climate change projections. He is currently co-leading an MBIE Endeavour Smart Ideas project: "Combining Physics and Artificial Intelligence—A hybrid model for actionable climate projections". Part of Neelesh's research is to use artificial intelligence to provide higher resolution and more accurate drought forecasts for New Zealand. Neelesh wants to use the most advanced techniques in artificial intelligence to enable better decision making for New Zealanders in the context of weather forecasting and climate change.
is an expert in in-situ and remote sensing techniques and works actively in the interdisciplinary space bridging the gap between research and applications at Weather Radar New Zealand as founder and director. Christchurch: vacant Daniel Kingston (Dunedin) |
studied at Otago University in the 1980s, then completed a PhD on "Urban Dew" at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She returned to New Zealand in 1999 to teach and continue doing research, including working on the Topoclimate South Project in Southland.

Completed a PhD in atmospheric dynamics at the University of Auckland. She joined Weather Radar New Zealand in 2019 and now works as an Applied Scientist, developing and refining radar-based quantitative precipitation estimates.
Climate scientist with many years’ experience of research, of writing IPCC reports, and of story-telling generally. Formerly a meteorologist at the New Zealand Meteorological Service way back in the 1980s. More info here. Auckland-based Meteorologist who has worked at both MetService and NIWA during her career. She currently leads a team of Consultant Meteorologists at MetService, helping deliver operational decision support for clients spanning roads, rockets, energy, events and all things in between. Georgina is a keen yachtie, who is often found sailing out on the beautiful Hauraki Gulf.
is Meteorologist at MetService, specialising in Marine and Tropical Cyclone forecasting. Prior to joining MetService in 2023, she worked as an Aviation and Marine forecaster for the UKMO and spent some time forecasting overseas in the Mediterranean and South Atlantic. In her free time, Alanna enjoys sailing and has recently started learning the piano. Her favourite cloud type is lenticular, especially when observed in Aoraki Mount Cook. |
