Using a non-professional automatic weather station network for mesoanalysis in Auckland, New Zealand
Local scale or misoscale analysis is described and used to explain two small synoptic features that occurred in Auckland in 2012. One was a flash flood on 3 July 2012, the other was a pressure jump embedded in a deepening low on 13 October 2012. In both cases data was obtained from amateur automatic weather stations. This network (Weather Underground) is described together with the data that can be downloaded from the internet. In each case study the feature is related to its theoretical background.
