New Zealand six main centre extreme rainfall trends 1962-2011
Using established methods, six indices of mean and extreme rainfall characteristics were analysed over the period 1962-2011, updating previous national-scale analyses for New Zealand. The results for the six main centres (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga and Dunedin) were analysed in detail. Some consistency in observed rainfall trends over the updated period (1962-2011) was evident, when compared to an earlier analysis (1950-2004). However, there was less statistical significance seen in the updated period, and the spatial demarcation between positive and negative trends was much less clear-cut in the later analysis.
