Abstract:

This paper is dedicated to the memory of E. G. ("Ted") Edie, formerly of the New Zealand Meteorological Service, who encouraged the writer and other synoptic meteorologists in the pre-satellite era to consider New Zealand's local weather effects in terms of the flow around obstacles. It continues a previous paper in this journal and discusses a number of examples of orographically produced mesoscale cloud vortices.
